Van sub flooring showing sound deadener and floor “joists”
I started on the van by pulling out the thick and heavy vinyl flooring that came from the factory so I could put down sound deadening material and figure out where the sub flooring supports should go. I put the 1×2 “joists” on the raised areas of the floor, allowing me to use a closed cell foam insulation under the plywood sub flooring.

Any construction or progress revolved around many, many trips to Lowes, Home Depot, or Ace Hardware. Only Ace is within 10 minutes of the house, the other two involve an hour’s trip or more. That makes for slow progress. You hope what you need is at Ace, but any lumber is not.

Here I am, back from a Lowe’s run with unfinished kitchen cabinets, cedar planking for the ceiling (which still smells great after a couple of months installed, by the way), and more plywood. You can’t have too much plywood. Also note the plywood subfloor is going down and is primed white.
The doors are insulated with New Zealand sheep’s wool, very easy to work with (non-itchy!). I will use the sheep’s wool throughout the van for insulation.
Progress is slowly being made!!
